Beloved Church President, Gordon B. Hinckley, Dies at 97

SALT LAKE CITY 27 January 2008 President Gordon B. Hinckley, who led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through twelve years of global expansion, has died at the age of 97.

President Hinckley was the 15Th president in the 177-year history of the Church and had served as its president since 12 March 1995.

The
Church president died at his apartment in downtown Salt Lake City at
7:00 p.m. Sunday night from causes incident to age. Members of his
family were at his bedside. A successor is not expected to be formally
chosen by the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles until after
PresidentHinckley’s funeral within the next few days.
President Hinckley was known, even at the age of 97, as a tireless leader who always put in a full day at the office and traveled extensively around the world to mix with Church members, now numbering 13 million in 171 nations.

His quick wit and humor, combined with an eloquent style at the pulpit, made him one of the most loved of modern Church leaders. A profoundly spiritual man, he had a great fondness for history and often peppered his sermons with stories from the Church’s pioneer past.

I was on the phone with my dad tonight when he said, did you hear President Hinckley died? I burst into tears! I love President Hinckley or GBH
as i liked to call him. He was an amazing prophet and i was always so
amazed by his love of all people and respect for all faiths. He had the
greatest sense of humour. I love President Hinckley and think he was really amazing and I am glad he is able to be reunited with his wife.
Wow, I can't believe he has passed away it will be so weird, but I am sure I will love President Monson too. We are hoping that they hold some kind of memorial service here in SLC that we can attend. I am really sad i never got to see him in person. That has been a goal of mine since i moved to SLC. Hopefully i will get to meet him one day...

The girl!

Addison has been doing the strangest thing lately. Whenever there is a blanket or any kind of clothing near by she likes to cover her face. She will be yelling and screaming but as soon as she pulls the blanket over her face she's totally fine! It's the strangest thing! And she LOVES American Idol. She's the funniest little girl.

Here is another onesie i made! and p.s. are you kidding about those chubby little legs! They're the best!

The excitment never stops!

I have been meaning to do an update post on Addison for quite some time.

Update number 1:

She is fully sitting up now. On our way home from California we stopped at inn-n-out in Vegas and Addison sat on the table all by herself trying to get a hold of my diet coke (that's a trick Grandpa Doug taught her)

Update number 2:

Last Wednesday Addison grabbed my hand to shove into her mouth to chew on, to my amazement i felt her first tooth! It's just a little bit poking through her gums! It's been very painful for her though. Grandpa Doug taught us a great trick though, wrap a ice cube up in a towel. she seems to like that more than her teething rings.

Update number 3:

She is finally sleeping in her crib. We struggled since day one with Addison sleeping in her crib. Unlike most people our problem wasn't that she liked sleeping in our bed either, she loved to sleep in her infant seat. go figure! But now she sleeps from about 10 pm to 7 am in her crib! At about 7 am we pop either a bottle or pacifier in her mouth and she will sleep till about 10 or 11!

Update number 3:

I can set her up on her hands and knees and she'll just sit there. She doesn't seem to like it t much though however she is strong enough to hold herself there for a few minutes.

Update number 4:

She likes to goo and scream a lot now. She is always squeaking at me and then smiling really big and throwing her arms in the air!

Update number 5:

She is a total flirt! Her new thing is to lean her head to one side and then give you a great big smile. It adorable to say the least! and i need to get a picture of it!

I can hardly believe she is almost 6 months old. It really seems just like yesterday that i was in labor! (and i can't even tell you much i miss my pregnant belly!!!!) It is so unreal how my life has been turned completely upside down in 6 months. I can't remember what my life was like before this, it just seems like she has always been apart of it.

This is what i have spent my weekend doing...

On Thursday night Alicia came over and taught me how to use my sewing machine and i made this.... (not the baby but the onesie). I actually bought the onesie plain and just added the ribbon and button. Alicia and I decided that we would spend Saturday making a few more of these. They all turned out super cute!
I also bought the little hat plain and added the flower. I make bows too but don't judge the one Addie is wearing in the picture above, they are usually MUCH cuter than that. That one has officially been retired, it was looking haggard.Having a girl is so much fun! However I am working on making a boys version of this for my nephew Clayton.

a tisket a tasket

I swear i am on a creative high lately. I have been making tons of new bows for Addison. I embellished that cutest little hat for her to wear this summer and I am crocheting a scarf for my mom (well i Will be once i get Alicia to help me start it b/c for some reason i just can't remember how to start a scarf!) My next project is a new bracelet for Addison.

I need to find someone to teach me how to use my sewing machine. I want to make a tag blanket for a girl in my ward who just had her baby. I have the fabric and the ribbon but i have no idea how to start this! I need my sister Kelly to show me how! Too bad I live so far away!

They also started a new thing in my relief society, it's called Celestial University; a pursuit of excellence. Its a pursuit of excellence program with a twist. You can earn your bachelors, masters or doctorate by obtaining and finishing goals. There are 12 different colleges or areas to earn your degree in. Basic goals are to completed and then signed off and dated by the "Professor" in that particular college. To obtain your degree you have to present your project at a relief society function.

I like the idea of being able to better myself. I have often picked up skills from my sisters. I learned all about making videos from Tracy and digital scrapbooking (and making my house and children smell good) from Kelly and sharks with Laser beams from Morgan (inside joke) and being super woman (i am still working on this) from my mom! However i never go to enrichment night (ever) and this is a way i can pick and choose things to "major" in and make friends in the ward in a more casual setting. I love it! Especially now that i have an excuse to constantly be starting new projects and just blame it on relief society, its brilliant!

Don't Mess With Dre!

My sister Tracy made this video for my mom. We call my mom Dre as in Madre (Spanish for mother) we have called her this since i was little. So Tracy made us t-shirts that say "The Dre Team I pity the fool that messes with Dre". We all hid in our t-shirts and while the video was playing we all came running out surprising my mom.
